Evercreech Walking Group

Autumn/Winter 2016/17

The group has made the most of our glorious summer weather and been out and about in the local area. We have had as many as 15 walkers (and talkers) finding new paths and tracks that even though they have lived in the village for many years did not know existed. We have covered all points of the compass, to Bruton, Cranmore, Ditcheat. Our October walk took us from Alfred's Tower to White Sheet Hill and back, our furthest adventure yet.

Virtually the only walk this year when we have had rain was the Bank holiday all day walk to Bruton, but we refused to allow this short late afternoon rain to dampen our spirits and the eight of us who did the walk enjoyed a lovely day.

In August, we ventured to Castle Cary and walked a circular route along the Macmillan Way to Carymoor, stopping in the Celtic Roundhouse for a quick snack of delicious flapjacks baked by Paula, one of our walkers.

Dates for Autumn/Winter

7th November    Walk to Pecking Mill, Easton Hill to Pylle and back to Evercreech.

5th December    Christmas walk followed by lunch - route and venue to be decided.

2nd January       Walk to Southwood Common, Lamyatt, Milton Clevedon and Stoney Stratton.

6th February      Catch bus to Castle Cary, walk back to Evercreech via Sutton, Alhampton and Ditcheat.

6th March          Walk to Spargrove, Batcombe Vale over Creech Hill back via Milton Clevedon.

3rd April            Drive to Castle Cary, circular walk to Hadspen, Cole and Coombe Bottom.

All walks start from the Village Hall at 10am on the first Monday of each month and everyone is welcome to join us. This time of year is it worth being prepared for the weather so it is advisable to wear walking boots if you have them and bring wet weather gear too.

Please bring along your bus pass if you have one, or money, as we occasionally catch the bus to the start or back from our walks.  Walks usually last between 2 to 3 hours, sometimes a little longer depending on the route we take, or if we find a coffee stop.

Thank you to everyone who has joined me on the walks; I hope you will continue to support the group. We are a friendly bunch so come and join us, everyone is welcome and it’s a great way to enjoy the countryside and get fit.
