This society covers Stoney Stratton, Chesterblade and Milton Clevedon as well as Evercreech.
The Evercreech and District Local History Society has some very interesting talks lined up for the 2016/17 season.
We are still looking for some kind person to take on the Front of House Role, until then Gill Lindsay and Jane Burgess will do the honours, however both are busy ladies, plus they are both working on their researches, Gill into Methodism and the Chapel in Weymouth Road, and Jane on the Sherston family. All interesting subjects for the future.
We must also thank Gill and David Lindsay for arranging for the very fragile Friendly Society banner and the Foresters banner to be housed in the Somerset County Museum. Part of Evercreech’s history for future generations.
On 22nd November Emma Munn will be speaking about ‘The Rural Life Museum’.
We start 2017 with our January meeting on the 17th when Allen Cotton tells us about ‘Transportation and Rabbits Family connections to Australia’
On February 21st Richard Raynsford is speaking about ‘Local Distinctiveness, The Buildings of Somerset and Dorset’.
March will be the A.G.M when Violette Valentine will talk on her research in local newspapers, the subject to be announced later.
All the meetings start at 7.30 pm and are held in the main room of the Village Hall to enable us to use the new drop down screen and digital projector.
Anyone interested in local history will be most welcome to come along and join us, there is a small charge of £3 to cover the cost of the speaker and the hire of the hall.
